Two real islands

This is a follow-up to the Three Island Word Problem.

   (Some subscribers may not have the Word Problem since some did
    not receive a copy; I will send again if there is a need).

    ISLAND I

211 persons/sq km

population doubling time 26 years

% OF LAND IN % OF LAND IN
Native FORESTS   PLANTATIONS

1980  = 37%      1980 = 0.99%
1990  = 26%      1990 = 0.97%

        ISLAND II

96 persons/sq km

population doubling time 36 years

% OF LAND IN % OF LAND IN
Native FORESTS   PLANTATIONS

1980  = 67%      1980 = 2.2%
1990  = 60%      1990 = 4.8%

Both examples are real.
If I had to choose, I would rather live on Island II.
It has a lower population density, a lower population growth and
a lower rate of deforestation. The people on Island II rely more on
plantations to supply wood. They seem to be planning ahead and are
planting trees for the future. Some of the tree plantations were established on
agricultural land.

In contrast, the people on Island I rely more on native forests to supply
their wood needs.
