RE: Seeking sources of information about Stem Analysis

Here is a short list of articles either describing stem analysis itself
or research done with stem analysis. There are many more recent articles.

Duff, G.H. and N.J. Nolan. 1953. Growth and morphogenesis in the
Canadian forest species. I. The controls of cambial and apical
activity in Pinus resinosa. Can. J. Bot. 31: 471-513.

Dyer, M.E. and R.L. Bailey. 1987. A test of six methods for estimating
true heights from stem analysis data. Forest Sci. 33(1):3-13.

Herman, F.R., D.J. DeMars, and R.F. Woollard. 1975. Field and computer

techniques for stem analysis of coniferous forest trees. USDA For.
Serv. Res. Pap. PNW-194. 51 p.

Mott, D.G., L.D. Nairn, and J.A. Cook. 1957. Radial growth in forest
trees and the effects of insect defoliation. For. Sci. 3: 286-
304.
