A ramicorn in radiata (or Monterey) pine is a strong branch that competes
temporarily with its apical shoot. It usually finishes up as a steeply
ascending, large competing branch, but some researchers would claim that
sometimes this leads to multiple leaders.
Lewis and Ferguson(1993) in their book "Management of Radiata Pine" ascribe
the origin of the term term to C.K. Pawsey in 1954.
