I thought I had posted this announcement to this group; I guess not. ------------------------------------------------------ Zelig++ v0.9 Available Zelig++ is an enhanced version of the generic forest gap model Zelig 1.0, which was originally written by Dr. Dean Urban, in 1990. The most significant new biological components of Zelig++ involve simulations of phenology and a revised tree-species temperature response which is independent of range data. This version also supports the simulation of frost regimes, and contains an improved monthly precipitation model. It is easy to run the model against historical climate data or against climate change scenarios. Zelig++ has been completely re-written in ANSI C. All memory allocation is dynamic. It provides a command line based user interface and a programmable scripting language or model shell. Zelig++ has a built-in graphical display facility based on the gnuplot plotting package, and an interactive command line interface. The ability to simulate certain aspects of natural disturbance, timber harvesting and silviculture remains from the previous version, Zelig:B.C. (Environmental Software 1993 (8) p219-230). The source distribution for Zelig++ is available by anonymous ftp from grebe.geog.ubc.ca, in directory Zelig++ as Zelig++.0.9.tar.Z. A copy of the preliminary users notes is part of the distribution; a postscript version is in the ftp directory as doc.ps.Z Zelig++ requires a UNIX(tm)-like operating system and X-windows to run. It has been successfully installed on SUN Sparcs and on Silicon Graphics Indigos. Zelig++ itself is free software, and comes with no warranty. Other parts of the source distribution are freely distributable under a variety of licenses, all of which restrict warranty. Zelig++ was developed by S. G. Cumming and P. J Burton, Department of Forest Sciences 270-2357 Main Mall University of British Columbia Vancouver, B.C.
