PROCEEDINGS OF THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FOREST VEGETATION MANAGEMENT ARE NOW AVAILABLE. A two volume proceedings containing 71 papers and 60 abstracts from the International Conference on Forest Vegetation Management are available from the Canadian Journal of Forest Research and Auburn University. The conference was held at Auburn University, Alabama with 200 delegates from 20 nations. The proceedings provide a forum on recent advances in the ecology, practice, and policy of forest vegetation management throughout the world. Research, operational techniques, and management issues applicable to commercial and noncommercial forests are addressed. Three broad facets of forest vegetation management are emphasized: (i) ecological research of forest vegetation interactions, including mechanisms involved in interspecific interferences, plant- and animal-community dynamics, and forest ecosystem effects of vegetation management practices; (ii) state of the art practices, including current technology systems, and equipment; alternatives to traditional practices; effects of practices on site resources; and the impact of costs on decision making; (iii) contemporary and projected policy and social issues.
