Shirley Burial Cloth Testing

I am looking for information on using a Lorentzen and Wettre, Alwetron TH1
for tensile testing of Shirley Burial cloth in conjunction with a soil
organic matter decomposition study.  The machine is commonly used for
testing paper and is fast and accurate for such purposes but I'm having
trouble with the material failing at the clamps.  If you have any words of
wisdom on successes or failures on the technique, especially using the TH1,
I would appreciate hearing from you.  Thankyou!
