Title: Assistant Professor, Natural Resources Analysis

Description: Full-time (9-month), tenure-track appointment with 

responsibilities for teaching, student advising, research, and 

service.  The appointment would be 50% teaching and 50% research, the 

latter by conducting a research program through the Minnesota 

Agricultural Experiment Station in the appointee's area of expertise.  

The position is located on the St. Paul Campus.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree by time of 

appointment, with expertise in natural resource and spatial data
analysis relevant to the listed responsibilities.  The ability to
identify and research problems significant to landscape and ecosystem
management is essential.  Demonstrated expertise with geographic
information systems is required.  At least one degree in forestry and
a background in forest ecology and/or remote sensing is preferred. 

Preference also will be given to candidates qualified to teach in one
or more of the following areas: forest landscape ecology and
management, water resources, natural resources planning, and
environmental assessment.  Competence in written and oral
communication is required.  A desire and ability to work effectively
with graduate and undergraduate students is essential.

Responsibilities: 


Teach a required course in geographic information systems for natural
resources analysis.  Develop, lead, and teach required and advanced
courses in natural resources management including spatial aspects of
resource and landscape analysis.  These courses would be expected to
serve graduate and undergraduate students from several majors
including Forest Resources, Fisheries and Wildlife, Natural Resources
and Environmental Studies and Conservation Biology.
     

Serve as an advisor for graduate and undergraduate students in (1)
forest resources, (2) natural resources and environmental studies,
and (3) conservation biology programs.

Develop and conduct a superior research program centered on the
application of quantitative methods to ecological and natural
resources management problems of broad spatial and temporal scales. 

Possible problems include but are not limited to description of
ecosystems, landscape analysis, modelling of vegetation dynamics,
biodiversity, forest/wildlife interactions, resource assessment, etc. 

This responsibility includes seeking and securing research funding.

Provide leadership to interdisciplinary faculty research on natural
resources analysis.

Participate in and provide leadership to the research, continuing
education, and service activities of the Department of Forest
Resources statewide.

Appointment: Available October 1, 1994.  Salary is competitive,
commensurate with experience and qualifications of the applicant and
will be supplemented with two months of summer salary for the first
five years of the appointment. Benefits include retirement; group
