Mike, It seems as if you have bitten of quite a bit !!! The research that you propose is quite interesting. IMHO there is not enough thought that is given to spatial autocorrelation in much of the literature that is out there. Of course on the other hand, as you are well aware by now, GIS and spatial analysis are both data hungry projects... If you need a "quick and dirty" dataset for your analysis, try SOFIA (Southern Forest Inventory Analysis) it is mapped of points every 3 miles. (that would make landscape level kriging quite easy). SOFIA collects many of the parameters you are interested in but it is limited to the south eastern states ... I gues you cant get every thing. I would be highly suspect of all and any data that comes across your desk that you personally did not collect... YOU HAVE NO IDEA what happens in the field .. That is not to say of course that anyone does their field work irresponsible but take anything that you did not collect with a grain of salt. I would appreciate more discussion on aspects of spatial autocorrelation and forestry, I believe it is a topic that we all must address eventually...
