Forest Stewardship Council The Forest Stewardship Council is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization founded in 1993 to promote good forest management throughout the world. It will evaluate, accredit and monitor certification organizations which inspect and certify forest management enterprises, and will promote improved forest management through training and by assisting in the development of national standards of forest management. The FSC is about to open its international headquarters in Oaxaca, Mexico. Applications are invited for two full-time technical positions and for a register of consultants, who will assist the Executive Director in evaluating and accrediting certificatoin organizations, in running training courses on certification and certifiable forest management, in contributing to national and regional initiatives for developing improved forest management standards, and in representing the FSC in metings worldwide. The two full-time staff members will be based in Oaxaca, but will be expected to travel widely. Employment will be on Mexican national scales and conditions, depending on age and experience. Full-time staff and consultants will have experience of practical forest management, from technical, productive, social, economic, environmental, ecological or legal backgrounds. They will be fluent in English and Spanish, buth other languages will be an advantage. Consultants may be required to travel widely, or to work only within their home regions.
