EUROPEAN FOREST INSTITUTE - EFI - is a newly founded independent,
international research institute conducting research on European forest
resources, their health, ecology and use, including the production, trade
and utilization of forest products. The Institute has close cooperation
with international organizations and national research institutions. One of
the main objectives of the institute is to provide forest policy research
in a European context.
The Institute is now seeking a
SENIOR RESEARCHER
in
FOREST POLICY ANALYSIS
The post will involve:
a) Initiating, coordinating and carrying out research in forest policy on
a European scale, regarding priority topics in EFI's research programme
like:
* Forest policy and sustainability
* Profitability and incentives in forestry
* Policy means for various types of forest owners
* Forest and rural development
* Impact of government interventions
* Integrated land use
* Forest policies in the newly independent states/countries
with economies in transition
b) Widening and deepening EFI's cooperation with forest policy researchers
and policy makers/decision makers in the European forest sector.
c) Arranging workshops and courses to improve forest policy research in
Europe.
Applicants should possess a PhD or equivalent in forest policy analysis,
political science, or in a related field, and have a wide research
experience. Basic knowledge of economics is an advantage. A good command of
written and spoken English is a necessity, as well as an ability to work in
a multinational and multidisciplinary context. Knowledge of other European
languages would be an advantage.

The post will be based at the EFI's headquarters in Joensuu, Finland. The
successful candidate is expected to take up the post as soon as possible. A
fixed term appointment for 1 to 3 years is envisaged. The appointment can
be renewed.
