May 2, 1994 Summer employment opportunity for upper level science students. Please advise qualified 3rd-5th year students in forestry, biology, geology and related environmental sciences that the Ecological Reserves Program will be conducting summer field work as part of a Natural Areas Inventory Project. Multi-disciplinary teams offering a combined expertise in geology, botany and ecology will be hired to collect bio-physical data in study areas that have been identified as representative examples of the dominant landforms of the Province. This information will be compared with bio-physical data on the climate, geomorphology, soils and vegetation of the surrounding region to determine whether these sites should be considered as potential candidate sites for completing a Natural Areas System for New Brunswick. Field positions will require demonstrable experience in geology, soil science, botany and ecology, as well as the interpersonal, organizational and communication skills necessary for team-oriented research. A working knowledge of ecological land survey or site classification methods, computer-based data analysis, photo- interpretation and geographic information systems is desirable. An interest in natural area conservation and familiarity with the current scientific literature on landscape ecology and integrated resource management would also be considered an asset. Interested students should contact me directly and register with the New Brunswick Provincial Student Employment Office under the JET Stream Program and the Mentorship program for Female Students. Recent graduates or other students who are not returning to school may also be considered for these positions and should notify me as soon as possible regarding their availability for work. Please circulate this information to other interested faculty members. Thank you for your assistance.
