POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT DATABASE MANAGER / ANALYST Stand Management Cooperative College of Forest Resources University of Washington The Stand Management Cooperative (SMC) is an integrated research program in silviculture, forest nutrition, wood quality and modeling in western Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. The primary mission of the cooperative is to develop techniques for planning and evaluating intensive stand management practices. The SMC staff collects, synthesizes, and models data on responses to silvicultural treatments for tree growth, stand development, and product quality and value. LOCATION: College of Forest Resources, University of Washington, Seattle DUTIES: Evaluate data management and analysis needs for a large cooperative forest research database and maintain and continuously improve database design to enhance access and utility. Participate in development and determination of appropriate research methodology and techniques, with emphasis on data collection, management and analysis. Prepare and maintain system documentation, and coordinate with project staff and scientists in QA/QC. Consult with project staff and graduate students and project cooperators concerning programs, data availability, and analyses. Assist project staff with preparation of reports and presentations, and participate in technical meetings. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in forestry or a related discipline; graduate degree highly desirable. Thorough knowledge of forest growth and yield terminology, measurements, and calculations; experience in forest growth analysis and modeling desirable. Background in statistical methods and familiarity with SAS. Fundamental expertise in scientific database management. Knowledge and experience with a variety of mainframe and desktop computing environments. Opportunity for further graduate study available. RANK and SALARY: Senior Computer Specialist; salary commensurate with qualifications.
