Foliar absorption of liquid water

I am looking for published (or unpublished) work on absorption of liquid water
by leaves of trees (or any other vegetation). There are a few references in the
literature to the potential importance of foliar absorption, but apparently
little work. Northern hemisphere studies of acid rain and other atmospheric
pollution discuss changes in permeability of cuticles (etc) and plant
physiological studies sometimes talk about cuticular resistance to diffusion of
gases only. I would appreciate any comments, references or suggestions.
