***************************************************************************** The Department of Wood Science in currently engaged in an extensive examination of its education programs. Earlier this year, a survey was sent out to over 500 senior managers in the primary, secondary and tertiary segment of the wood products industry across Canada to determine their educational needs in the forest products sector. The information from the survey is being augmented by intensive focus group meetings with representatives from industry. In addition, successful forest products education programs in Europe and the US were visited and benchmarked against the current programs at The University of British Columbia. This information will be used to prepare a proposal for both undergraduate and graduate education programs in advanced forest products manufacturing at UBC. The new programs are expected to be in place in September, 1995. ***************************************************************************** ************************************** * Dr. Stavros Avramidis * * Associate Professor * * Deptartment of Wood Science * * The University of British Columbia * * Vancouver, B.C. * * Canada, V6T 1Z4 * * * * e-mail: stavros@unixg.ubc.ca * **************************************
