CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT - FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS 

International Boreal Forest Research Association - Fourth Annual Meeting 

Boreal Forests and Global Change

25-28 September, 1994, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada 

IBFRA links boreal forest researchers from Canada, Russia, the USA, and 
Europe for the promotion and coordination of boreal forest research. 
Past meetings: Russia (1991), Alaska (1992), Norway/Sweden (1993) 

Papers are invited on the following important topics relating to boreal 
forests in times of global change:
The Carbon Cycle: pools and fluxes, role of disturbances, forest carbon 
		management, bioenergy opportunities...
Climate Change:	past, present and future responses of growth, decomposition, 
		disturbance regimes, feedbacks...
Biodiversity:	impacts on vegetation and wildlife, integrated management...
Forest Management:	silviculture, harvesting, regeneration... 
Socioeconomics:		future timber supply, land-use pressures, 
			multiple-use management...
New Technologies:	inventory, monitoring, large-scale ecosystem 
			modelling, multi-disciplinary research...

Preliminary titles for papers are required by 20 March 1994. 
Advance abstracts must be submitted by 1 April 1994. Arrangements 
are being made for publication of peer-reviewed papers, possibly 
in a special issue of Journal of Forestry. 

Optional field-tours of the BOREAS Experiment and Prince Albert Model Forest 
are planned for 29 September to 1 October 1994.
