As of March 10, 1994 the following files were available on the FTP
server: utkux.utcc.utk.edu under the directory \pub\smoky. These files
are available through anonymous FTP.
To connect type:
FTP utkux.utcc.utk.edu
at the login prompt give your id as:
anonymous
use as your password your e-mail address.
Then give the following commands:
cwd pub
cwd smoky
dir
You should see a directory with the following file list. Use the proper
FTP commands to retrieve files to your system. For all files that have
the extension TXT you can use standard text (ASCII) transfers. For
all other files you must provide the FTP server with the proper command
to transfer the files to your system in binary format.
Please note that FTP commands are case sensitive. Use the lower
case for FTP commands. Note that the case of the file name is
also important and that all file names except README.TXT are in
lower case.

with built-in viewer. To view or print the addendum,
run this program from the Windows Program Manager or
File Manager.
smokydb.dp DigitalPaper file of Great Smokies Reference Database.
To view and print use either CGMACMV.SEA (Macintosh) or

smokydb.exe Windows DigitalPaper file of Great Smokies Reference

SMOKYADD.EXE. To extract, run from the DOS command

Manager. (If run from the File Manager, press F5 after
the extraction to update the File Manager listing.
smokyex.zip PKZIP file containing SMOKYDB.EXE and SMOKYADD.EXE. Use
PKUNZIP to extract.
smokytxt.txt The complete Great Smoky Mountains Reference Database in
text (ASCII) format. Contains subject, journal, year,
and author indexes (as in SMOKYDB.EXE and SMOKYDB.DP)
but without enhanced character format. Printable on
any text printer.
