PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
1983-85 Forestry Technical Advisor, U.S. Peace Corps/CARE
Community Forestry Systems project, Saraguro, Ecuador
* Trained and supervised nursery and extension personnel.
* Established and managed two nurseries producing 400,000
trees for outplanting in first two years of project.
* Planned and coordinated promotion, training, and
extension activities in 29 indigenous communities.
* Supervised plantation establishment resulting in an 87%
survival rate.
* Wrote field manuals in Spanish on permanent timber
inventory plots and Christmas tree production.
1985-87 Forestry Project Coordinator, CARE Intl., Cuenca, Ecuador
* Provided technical and programming guidance of project
activities, including: forest/fruit tree nurseries;
communal forest plantations; agroforestry and soil
conservation practices; training and extension; field
research; office and financial administration.
* Coordinated and supervised 32 project personnel
including CARE supervisors, Peace Corps volunteers,
nursery workers, and extensionists.
* Prepared annual implementation plans and budgets,
trimestral reports, and vehicle status reports, as well
as controlled and accounted for project expenditures.
* Conducted survey and wrote report of farmers' uses and
preferences for woody species to aid project expansion
into agroforestry and fruit tree promotion.

fertilization trials in three communities.
