IS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FEASIBLE ?

ECOTECH'94 gladly announce the presentation and discussion of the
paper entitled:

WIND ENERGY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
---------------------------------------
by Thomas O. Gray (Editor, Wind Energy Weekly), Norwich, USA

The paper presents wind energy as an environmentally preferable source
of electric power around the world. Today, there are approximately
25,000 wind electric turbines generating power worldwide, totalling
2,600 megawatts (MW) of peak generating capacity and producing nearly
five billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually. Thomas Gray
briefly reviews the history of windpower and discusses the economics,
environmental impacts, basic operating principles, and applications of
modern wind electric turbine technology. Applications described
include windfarms, small remote power systems, large hybrid power
systems, and dispersed grid-connected units.

Thomas Gray is editor of _Wind Energy Weekly_ for the American Wind
Energy Association, the electronic version is also available via

The full text of the _Weekly_ is available in hardcopy form as well as
