                      FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT   
         16th PLANT ROOT ENVIRONMENT MEETING (SRIEG-25)
                        12-13 July, 1994
               Mississippi State University Campus
                         Starkville, MS

The Southern Research Information Exchange Group - 25  (SRIEG-25)
is also known as the Plant Root Environment Group or the
Rhizosphere Research Group.  The most recent meetings for SRIEG-25
were in Charleston, SC (1992), St. Louis (1990), and Athens, GA
(1988).  It was started in the mid-60's by Bob Pearson and Howard
Taylor.  Over the years, SRIEG-25 has provided opportunities for
scientists from all regions of the country to participate in the
exchange of information and technology for studying plant root
growth and development.  Meetings have been attended by soil
scientists, crop scientists, foresters, ag. engineers, plant
pathologists, plant physiologists, microbiologists, and scientists
from other disciplines.  Knowledge and methods for the study of
roots and the rhizosphere have continued to change rapidly.  This
information exchange group has assisted in the adoption of new
ideas and in fostering cooperative efforts.

This year's meeting will be held 12-13 July, 1994 in the new School
of Forest Resources Building on the Mississippi State University
Campus, near Starkville, MS.  The first day will be used for oral
and poster presentations.  The first half of the second day will be
used for the business meeting and presentations.  The second-half
of the second day will be used for a field trip to an experimental
installation in a nearby county.
