I know that some foresters manage lands based on ecologically sound
principles.  However, what I need is a few references that define these
"ecologically sound principles."

I have one reference (Ecosystem Structure and Function
edited by John A. Wiens; 1972; OSU Press) which is very good but it 
does not list basic ecological principles.  

Can someone give me a reference that provides several ecologically
sound principles?
