EUCALYPT PLANTATIONS:
IMPROVING FIBRE YIELD AND QUALITY
*******************************************
Conference hosts: IUFRO and the Co-operative Research Centre for
Temperate Hardwood Forestry
Venue: Wrest Point Hotel-Casino, Hobart, Tasmania AUSTRALIA
Date: 19-24 February 1995
Invitation
We invite you to attend the 1995 IUFRO Conference.
This forestry symposium will address issues relating to breeding and
production of Eucalyptus fibre with emphasis on wood properties and
qualities. It will be held in Tasmania, the island state of Australia
and home of E. globulus and E. regnans (the tallest hardwood in the
world).
Interested persons
The conference is held under the auspices of IUFRO Working Parties S2.02-09
(Eucalypt provenances and breeding ) and P2.02-01 (Productivity of Eucalypts).
Background
To improve the quality and quantity of timber, pulp and paper and
efficiency of its production from hardwood plantations, silviculturists
and geneticists need to address three key questions.
1) What are the principal characteristics that industry requires in its raw
materials to produce high quality timber, pulp and paper and how these
characters are best measured?
2) What is the extent of genetic, silvicultural and environmental control over
these characters?
3) What are the relative roles of genetics, silviculture and technology in
improving these traits?
Call for papers
The organising committee invites contributions to the themes of the
conference, either as formal papers or posters. Papers and abstracts of
posters will be published in proceedings available at the meeting.
Deadlines are as follows:

Review or position papers submitted by Friday 23rd September 1994
