Research course at the European Forest Institute (EFI):
INTRODUCTION TO STOCHASTIC ANALYSIS WITH APPLICATIONS
Stochastic factors play an important role in forest management
decisions. To improve the theoretical basis for stochastic
analysis in forestry, EFI is arranging a 5-day course under the
title "Introduction to stochastic analysis with applications".
The course is application-oriented. Less weight will be put on
rigorous mathematical proofs and more weight on understanding the
basic features (although some mathematics is of course needed).
The symposium is aimed at PhD students and researchers of
ecology/biology and resource economics. The lecturer is Professor
Bernt Oksendal from the University of Oslo, who is a leading
specialist in this field.
The following topics will be discussed :
1. Ito-integral
2. Diffusions
3. Stochastic solutions of rand problems
4. Optimal stopping
5. Stochastic optimal control
The course will take place on 7-11 March 1994 in the beautiful
Koli national park and skiing resort, 70 km from Joensuu,
Finland, in the heart of the boreal forest.
The number of participants is limited to 15. The participation
fee is 2000 FIM (about 300 ECUs), including board and lectures.
If interested, please return the enclosed registration form
by mail or E-mail to EFI no later than 10 December 1993.
The participants are encouraged to bring their own papers/ideas
for comments and discussion on the course.
