Request for information on forestry-related network resources
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dear colleagues,
I suppose that e-mail is still the most familiar use made of
computer based research networks such as the Internet, BITNET
or EARN. On the other hand, the information resources publicly
accessible on these networks are growing enormously. Even-
though navigating tools (Gopher, WAIS, WWW), manuals (FYI,
FAQ, RFC) and subject guides ("Not just cows", "subject tree")
are available, it is almost impossible to be aware of all
useful information services related to forests and forest
sciences.
In a few days, people from the Swiss Federal Institute for
Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL/FNP) and from the
Swiss Federal Institute of Technology - Department of Forestry
and Wood Science (ETHZ, D-WAHO) will meet in Zurich for an
"Internet workshop". Beyond other aims, we will try to find
out which are, at present, the relevant information sources on
the networks. We are already informed about this mailing list
"forest@nic.funet.fi", the bibliographic references on the
Minnesota Gopher ("Social Sciences in Forestry", SSiF), as
well as some library catalogues.
We would appreciate to receive:
- additional tips for the subject-oriented navigation
- hints to special information services in forestry (Gopher
services, library catalogues and others)
- addresses of thematic mailing lists, newsgroups, etc.
- addresses of electronic archives in forestry for
Anonymous FTP
Please send your message to the e-mail address below, and not
to the mailing list. I will summarize the answers for the
subscribers of this list. Thank you for your help.
