Forest Ecologist
We have a vacant position for a forest ecologist in the forest damage
inventory and forest ecosystem monitoring section. We are looking for
someone with general experience in the field of forest ecology who will
assist with the collection and interpretation of data from the
forest ecosystem monitoring programme.
By the end of 1995, when the programme has been fully established, we expect
that we will have approximately 80 monitoring plots distributed throughout
Switzerland. There will be a large amount of data for each plot and, to
ensure that the potential of these data is fully realised, we are looking
for someone with an interest and proven ability in forest ecology who can
join the core group responsible for the analysis and interpretation of the
data. To complement existing skills, the ideal candidate will have a
knowledge of one or more of the following areas: the decomposer chain,
nutrient cycling, carbon allocation, plant-environment interactions.
Responsibilities will include coverage of the relevant literature on
monitoring methods and results, interpretation of data collected by
specialist groups within the programme, assistance with the preparation of
manuscripts detailing the results of the project and assistance with
representation on international expert panels dealing with forest monitoring. Consequently, a good knowledge of English and, preferably, German, French or Italian, is a prerequisite for the post. Applicants should have experience in the preparation and pu
