Root ingrowth core material

I plan to use Fiberglass Screen material (New York Wire Co., PA)
for root ingrowth bags in mixed pine-oak stand. The bags are 5 cm
in diameter and 15 cm long will be filled with sieved soil and
buried in the surface soil horizons.

Has anybody out there used a similar material for root ingrowth
studies?

Are there any reasons fiber glass bags should not be used?

Can anybody think of better material (please, indicate supplier)?
