VACANCY FOR A FOREST MODELLER AT THE SWISS FEDERAL INSTITUTE FOR FOREST, SNOW AND LANDSCAPE RESEARCH, BIRMENSDORF, SWITZERLAND We are currently looking for a dynamic, post-doctoral scientist to work on the development of a forest ecosystem model. The person will join a new and expanding team dealing with the intensive observation of forest ecosystems. The project has been established in response to the long-term threats to forests posed by phenomena such as acidic deposition and climatic change. The monitoring programme will generate a large volume of data and we wish to develop an integrated forest ecosystem model which will help with the interpretation of these data. The post will involve the review and potential development of many existing models, leading to the development of a model that integrates climate, pollution, soil and vegetation. The ultimate aim is to be able to use this model to predict the response of forests in Switzerland to changing environmental conditions. The post is currently vacant and is available until December 1995, with good possibilities for further renewal. Experience with modelling, particularly within an ecological context, is required. A good knowledge of English and German and/or French and/or Italian would be advantageous. For further information, please contact Dr John Innes (Tel: +41 1 739 2216; FAX: +41 1 739 2215; e-mail: innes@wsl.ethz.ch). Closing date for applications: 25 June 1993.
