I am looking for one kind and knowledgeable soul within a "reasonable" distance of Urbana-Champaign, Illinois who can get our digitizer communicating with GRASS. I can't promise my first-born, but arrangements can be made for some form of compensation. Here's the situation: We have a COMPLOT Series 7000 digitizer physically connected to a SUN sparc 2. The physical connection is LONG (possibly too long): the digitizer is on the 2nd floor and the SUN is on the 3rd floor. Next to the digitizer is an x-terminal which now communicates well with the SUN and can access GRASS quite nicely (thanks to those of you who have answered previous cries for help). The idea is to be able to digitize on the 2nd floor while logged in from the x-terminal. Several months ago, I compiled Dave Gerdes new (at that time) v.digit and made feeble efforts to develop an appropriate driver for the COMPLOT based on the example driver files given and a very cryptic owner's manual. It doesn't work. I'm not even sure WHAT doesn't work. The program freezes up when I try to register points without any acknowledgement of the digitizer's existence. I don't know if it's a hardware or a software problem. I'm not far enough along on the learning curve to know where to begin. If there's anyone out there willing and able to make a house call -- name your price! Sharyl E.
