EUROPEAN FOREST INSTITUTE - EFI is a newly founded, 
independent,  international research institute conducting research on 
European forest resources, their health, ecology and use. The Institute 
has close co-operation with international organisations and national 
research institutions, and it will function as a data bank and 
information centre on the European forests.
 
The Institute is now seeking a

The post will involve:

- Maintenance and development of  the EFI Data Bank. (Currently the 
  Data Bank is managed using Microsoft Windows and  Microsoft 
  Access database management software.)

- Carrying out analyses and studies on the resources and future of the 
  European forests.

- Assisting in the development of a local area network and data 
  communications between other international organisations.

- Participation in the development of  a georeferenced data base on the 
  European forests and ecology.

- Functioning as an ADP expert at EFI.

Applicants should possess a MSc or an equivalent  in Forestry or in a 
related field and a minimum of three years experience in computers, data 
base management and forestry. Knowledge of forest modelling is 
highly desirable. A good command of written and spoken English is a 
necessity.

environment. The post will be based at the EFI's headquarters in Joensuu, 
Finland. The successful candidate is expected to take up the post as soon 
as possible. A fixed term appointment for 1 to 3 years is envisaged. The 
appointment can be renewed.
