Subject: Forestry Information Resources on the Internet and other
computer-assisted research networks
At the IUFRO Centennial meeting in Berlin last September, the Subject
Group S6.03 "Information Systems and Terminology" had organized its own
session. Electronic information services related to forestry and their
access through academic computer networks was one of the topic discussed.
The Berlin contributions were compiled to a pre-print collection under
the title "Information systems serving forestry research" (68 pages) and
can be ordered from the address mentioned below.
It is possible to receive beforehand via e-mail an electronic copy of the
"Table of contents", including the 9 papers and the 5 posters presented

In future, IUFRO S6.03 will continue to look for forestry information
sources and services on computer research networks which are publicly
accessible, such as library catalogues (OPACs), special collections
(e.g., on the Gopher, WAIS or WWW services), as well as bulletin boards,
newsgroups or mailing lists (e.g., the "Forest" one I am writing to at
the moment). A list of references is in preparation.
Finally, I would like to thank our Finnish colleagues for their
"electronic initiative" taken with this FOREST mailing list.
