The number of person-years decreased by 3.1 percent and is now 922. The decrease from the previous year, 30 person-years, was mainly due to the reduced number of temporary staff. Otherwise the organizational structure remained approximately the same. The share of person-years in the Helsinki metropolitan area was 45 percent.

Metla’s operating expenses in 2005 totalled 52.2 million euros, with 3.4 million euros of growth from the previous year. The operating expenses included the funds carried forward from the previous year and the used external funding. The contribution to the operational expenses by the regional Research Units and sites reached 52%. The net amount of funds received directly to the operating budget increased by approx. 1.9 million euros from the previous year, which was mainly due to expansion in funds generated from operations.

The net income from operations increased by 1.5 million euros, which was mainly due to the volume increase in customer-funded operations and the backdated net income reimbursed by the EU. The budgeted net income from operations exceeded the amount granted in the State budget by 2.4 million euros.
