Harvesting companies are interested in regional entrepreneurship |

Large harvesting companies were particularly interested in expanding their operations into regional entrepreneurship. The entrepreneurs were also interested especially in wood energy provision. However, they were more reluctant about forest management measures. These facts were discovered in a study conducted by Metla, aiming to survey the preparedness of harvesting and logistics companies for regional entrepreneurship in eastern Finland. The study was a sub-project of a larger programme, the goal of which was to analyse and develop the key operations of timber procurement. There is considerable variation in the proportional shares of different taxation forms – by area or by sales – in different parts of Finland. Hence, this may cause strong variation in the availability of timber between municipalities and procurement areas. In municipalities, where the proportion of area taxation was large during the transition period, most of the potential for cutting had already been used. In these municipalities the emphasis in timber procurement will be in stands subject to future sales taxation. Additional information: http://www.metla.fi/hanke/3331/index-en.htm |
