Annual Report 2005 - Forest-based entrepreneurship and forest environment models and databanks

The aim of the Expertise in Russian forestry project was to enhance the operational capabilities of the forest and timber SME sector both in Finland and in north-western Russia. The project provided companies with an extensive information service about the status and current changes in the Russian forest sector. Information service points for companies in eastern Finland were founded in Joensuu and Kajaani. The project produced publications on Russian forestry and timber trade, and created the Internet website Info service of forestry in NW Russia at (http://www.idanmetsatieto.info).

The project increased the volumes of timber imports of several companies and prerequisites were created for two small-scale networking groups. Additionally, assistance was provided for one company to create a production network in the Republic of Karelia. The project was coordinated by Metla, funded by the State Provincial Office of Eastern Finland and the Interreg III A Karjala programme. The partners in the project were the Wood Technology Centre Puugia, Kainuun Etu Oy, the University of Joensuu and North Karelia University of Applied Sciences.
